When Baby Boomers entered the workforce, there were only three generations: The Silent Generation, Traditionalists, and Baby Boomers. Because of increased life expectancies, most workplaces today have members from four generations -- Traditionalists, Boomers, Gen X and Millennials -- and a very few even five.

Part Six -- The Qualified Workers Come Knocking
Almost 700,000 people lost their jobs this past month as I write this. Just this morning, our local paper contains an article about how businesses have the luxury of choosing its employees from among “more qualified candidates”. One employer is quoted as saying that in the past they “were hurting for employees, and now we’ve got people who are overqualified coming in looking for work.”

Part Five -- Experience
Time used to be synonymous with experience. And experience implied competence. But not anymore. Time spent on the job is no longer enough. We can no longer assume that someone who is "experienced" is competent.
