Pandora's Box.
January 23, 2010
Yesterday was a new record for medical marijuana applications: 1800.
That means in a typical month we can expect to have over 35000 potheads registering in Colorado to get high in a dispensary that sells not pills, not medicine prescribed by a doctor, but “gourmet weed” for happy potheads.
Our president started this with his directive to federal authorities to no longer enforce federal marijuana laws. Does the president have the authority to unilaterally repeal laws he does not like? Does this mean that I can ignore laws that I do not like, too? And tell my friends to also “have at it”? What happened to the “rule of law”?
How do we put the sconce on this display of horrendous stupidity? If we think we can control the unleashing of irresponsible, illicit behavior of the magnitude we are seeing, we are mistaken.
Marijuana should be available in pill form with a prescription from a doctor. Period. I doubt that most voters had any idea they were voting for what was tantamount to legalization.
Our governor and his legislature need to put the lid back on Pandora’s Box. Disaster has reached the edge, her nails are sharpened, and she is soon to be crawling out. Right behind her Colorado’s newest patrons are licking their chops — the marijuana producing Drug Cartels of Mexico.
