The Great Divider
March 24, 2010
“Two doctors at our hospital quit tonight after healthcare passed,” said a local nurse.
The Democratic healthcare plan provides immediate coverage for preventive care for the insured; coverage for children to include leaving them on their parent’s healthcare plan until age 26; and removes pre-existing conditions for children who are sick.
Who pays for this largesse? The insurance companies, of course—using your premiums.
Also in this bill is legislation that requires insurance companies to spend 80% of their premiums every year, restricting the amount of reserves an insurance company can retain to accommodate unexpected events or surges in healthcare needs. The figure used to be 65%. At least one insurance worker says this mandate guarantees that most of the 1500 healthcare insurance companies will go out of business.
The Democrats have ensured that significant changes reflected in their healthcare legislation will not take effect until after the 2010 election. They also threw a sucker punch by raising taxes that will be used to shore up social security and pay the “doctor tax” so that middle class taxpayers will see no changes until 2014. By then Democrats will have unionized the system and consolidated control over the nation’s healthcare. Your healthcare.
It’s the old “how to boil a frog” story.
The nation is seething and Democrats inside the Beltway are toasting champagne.
When I see this kind of disconnect, I ask myself “why the celebration when the average citizen is ready to join an angry mob and storm the Capitol?”
I have concluded that it is all about power. Democrats are laying the foundation for retaining power in perpetuity.
The Democrats are creating an environment where they decide what healthcare the average American receives. With the inclusion of student loans as part of the healthcare legislation, they control who gets to go to college and which colleges receive aid.
I wonder if what happened in Greece galvanized the Democrats.
For many Americans, Greece was an example of a unionized, entitlement society run amok. High wages and free everything simply cannot be sustained.
But for Democrats it may have been the final omen. Create an entitlement society and people will revolt when you try to take their benefits away. And who will lead the charge against change? The unions, of course.
My wife and I lived in Europe for 8 years. The unions have strangled the economies of the European continent. Entitlements have created a tax system that has pushed their governments to the verge of bankruptcy. There are no entrepreneurs. No volunteers. No charities. Inertia is the rule.
In our own city of Colorado Springs, the local community centers are closing. A Church has stepped up to provide money to keep at least one open. The reaction of local radicals? The evil Church is trying to fuse religion into the center’s operations!
For activists it is better to close the centers than dare to let a religious organization be involved.
Democrats play smash-mouth politics. They always have. When Coach McCartney at the University of Colorado as part of CU’s annual tradition handed out season tickets to our congressional delegation here in Colorado, Pat Schroeder handed them back saying she would not accept tickets from someone who was pro-life.
My wife spent two weeks in a Texas prison for protesting at an abortion clinic. She was strip-searched and reviled by the guards for assisting other inmates with their legal problems and for questioning the “drug education” the inmates received. (Texas drug education in the prisons is directed at safe drug use rather than why drug use might be harmful.). They also demanded that she quit leading the other inmates in singing Christmas carols (it was just before Christmas).
Bart Stupak threw unborn babies under the bus. The president signed the executive order that bought his vote this afternoon—sans media.
The executive order is useless.
Using language such as “when the life of the mother is endangered” has been the “wink and nod” of abortionists since Roe v. Wade passed because it includes not just physical, but also mental health. Any woman in emotional distress therefore has the right to abort her child any time during her pregnancy “because we don’t know what she might do to herself if we refuse”.
It was bad enough when abortions were paid for by the women and men killing their own children. But now it is up to you and me to fund the demise of the unborn. Talk about immoral. My wife says her conscience is being violated, and she refuses to have blood on her hands.
My wife is threatening revolt. At 5 feet 4 inches and 140 pounds, she is a hellcat. And I suspect there are many like her. I plan to put her on a bus to Virginia the next time the Tea Party goes to Washington.
The president has become the Great Divider.
It is now a matter of which side of the Great Divide will triumph.
Last night Senator John McCain made the case. I wonder if he even realizes what he said in response to a question from Sean Hannity about how he was coping.
“Just doing God’s work in the City of Satan.”
For a man who spent over 6 years as a prisoner of war, I am sure the good senator recognizes Satan’s hangouts when he sees them.
America’s Armageddon is unfolding before us.
